Buddies Everywhere is a great icebreaker and human connection activity that allows you to create a range of connections and pairings that can be used in multiple activities and classroom environments.

The activity is well suited to the first activity in a workshop or to start the year off with your class, as the connections created can be used and referred to in additional activities.

To start, make sure you have an even number of people. There are six pairings or buddies that we are going to create. These are:

  • High five buddy
  • First bump buddy
  • High 10 jump buddy
  • Dab buddy
  • Dodgeball snake buddy
  • Special buddy (create a special handshake)

Start the activity by describing that we're going to be finding six new buddies. Starting with the first buddy, demonstrate what a high five looks like: Run up to someone to demonstrate, introduce yourself, then high five your new buddy while yelling out their name. Have participants go and do the same to find their high five buddy.

After this, repeat the cycle with the next buddy, giving them time to introduce themselves. Once you think enough time as passed, yell out to the group to find their high five buddy causing them to run back through the group to find their previous buddy.

This process continues through all six buddy types, where you continually send them to reconnect with their other buddies. Watch the video in its entirety to understand the activity better.
